Most conventional detergents rely on chemical thickeners, harsh fragrances, and optical brighteners to create the impression of a powerful clean. The thick blue liquid and strong scent make it feel like the product is working, but a lot of that is cosmetic. Thickeners don't clean your clothes, and neither do dyes.
Truly Free Home Laundry Wash takes a different approach. Our formula is built around a patented QuadraSalt blend of four functional salts, each with a specific job in the wash cycle.
Sodium citrate is a chelating agent that binds to calcium and magnesium in your water. This is especially important if you have hard water, because the minerals in hard water interfere with cleaning. By neutralizing them, sodium citrate frees up the rest of the formula to focus on actually cleaning your clothes instead of fighting your water.
Sodium carbonate (washing soda) is an alkalizing salt that breaks down grease, oils, and acidic stains. It raises the pH of the wash water, which helps loosen dirt and body oils from fabric fibers.
Tetrasodium salt works as a water softener and chelator that binds with metal ions in hard water, improving cleaning efficiency and making it easier for dirt particles to disperse.
Sodium polyacrylate, also known as an anti-redesposition agent, keeps dirt particles suspended in the wash water after they’ve been lifted from your laundry, so they don’t redeposit on your clothes.
In addition to the salt blend, we use coconut-derived surfactants (sodium cocoate) to cut through grease and lift stains, plus a blend of essential oils for scent in our Signature Scent version. What you’ll never find in our laundry wash is harmful fragrances, optical brighteners, SLS, phosphates, or 1,4-dioxane.
The result is a detergent that may appear thinner and lighter than what you're used to seeing. That's by design. You're not paying for water and thickeners. Instead, you get concentrated cleaning agents and nothing else.
Your first order comes with a reusable jug and a pouch of concentrated Laundry Wash. After that, you'll receive lightweight refill pouches instead of a new plastic jug every time.
Here’s how to mix your first order and refills:
Step 1: Remove the spout from your jug and fill it with hot water up to the fill line (the top of the handle). Use water that’s warm enough to dissolve the cleaning powder. Don't use cold water for this step.
Step 2: Open the refill pouch and pour the entire contents into the jug.
Step 3: Pop the spout back on, screw the cap on tight, and give it a good shake to mix everything together.
That's it. Each refill pouch provides up to 50 loads, and since you're reusing the same jug, you're reducing your reliance on single-use plastic. To get the last bit of wash out of your jug before refilling, just pop the spout off and pour—no need to rinse between refills.
Like with any product, there are questions that always come up. Here are answers to the Laundry Wash questions we get most.
What if I have hard water? The sodium citrate in the QuadraSalt formula is specifically designed to handle hard water by binding to minerals before they can interfere with cleaning. For very hard water, you can also add Truly Free Home Softening Rinse to your rinse cycle for extra softness.
What about cloth diapers? Laundry Wash is safe for cloth diapers. Add a scoop of Enzyme Stain Remover to the wash to help break down organic material and prevent ammonia buildup.
Does Laundry Wash work in cold water? Yes. Our Laundry Wash is designed to work across all water temperatures and is specifically formulated for cold water. Just make sure you use hot water when mixing your refill pouch, since the powder needs heat to dissolve properly.
Why doesn't it look thick like other detergents? Because there are no unnecessary thickeners or dyes in the formula, it will appear thinner than common store-bought brands. But our formula is actually more concentrated than the thick blue stuff. What you're seeing is the cleaning formula without any of the filler.
More suds means a better clean, right? Not really. Excess suds are usually a sign of too much detergent or unnecessary foaming agents. Truly Free Home Laundry Wash is low-sudsing by design, which is better for your machine (especially HE models) and means your clothes rinse cleaner.
Wondering how to use Truly Free Home Laundry Wash in an HE washer versus a standard washing machine? We’ve got you covered.
Truly Free Home Laundry Wash is concentrated, plant-powered, and designed to do more with less. The QuadraSalt formula handles hard water, lifts stains, and rinses clean without the added thickeners, dyes, or harmful fragrances found in conventional detergents, so a little goes a long way. Not only that, our refill system keeps plastic out of the picture, and works across all machine types and water temperatures. Once you get the hang of the dosing, the rest takes care of itself.
