How to Clean Your Toilet in 5 Simple Steps

Before you start, grab your cleaning supplies and a reusable cleaning cloth you can throw in the washer when the job is done. Since you aren’t cleaning with harsh, toxic chemicals, you don’t need reusable gloves to avoid skin irritation. Of course, if you want to slip a pair on to avoid touching any icky stuff, we don’t blame you.

1. Remove the Toilet Seat

Pop open the small plastic tabs at the back of the seat to expose the bolts holding it in place. From the underside, hold the nut or wingnut in place with your hand or pliers while using a flathead screwdriver to unscrew the bolt from above. Once the bolts are loose, lift the seat off. Without it, you can clean hidden gunk in hard-to-reach spots.

2. Wipe Down the Toilet Exterior

Use a reusable cleaning cloth to clean the outside of your entire toilet, including the tank, tank cover, and base.

3. Scrub the Toilet Bowl

Evenly spray the entire bowl with Truly Free Home Toilet Bowl Cleaner, including under the rim. Use a toilet brush (which you should replace at least once a year) to scrub thoroughly. Then, let the toilet bowl cleaner sit for a few minutes.

4. Clean the Toilet Seat

While you wait, spray the detached seat with the cleaner and wipe it down with a cloth. If the bolt area needs some extra elbow grease, use a toothbrush to scrub it. Doing this step in your shower, tub, or a large wash basin will give you more space and create less mess on your bathroom floor.

5. Flush to Rinse Everything Away

Flush the grime down the drain and screw the seat back on. Then, before removing your gloves, wash them in the sink with soap and hot water, as if you’re washing your hands, and hang them to air dry.

Enjoy a sparkling clean, toxin-free toilet!

Why Choose a Safer, Non-Toxic Toilet Bowl Cleaner

Many conventional toilet cleaners contain harmful chemicals like hydrochloric acid, sodium hypochlorite (aka bleach), and quaternary ammonium compounds (or QUATS). While they promise to kill germs and remove stains, these toxic ingredients can also irritate your eyes, skin, and lungs. Frequent exposure is also linked to reproductive, endocrine, and immune system issues.

And if you’re thinking products made with safe, non-toxic ingredients aren’t effective, well… that’s simply a myth

Thanks to Truly Free Home’s Non-Toxic Toilet Bowl Cleaner, and its plant-powered ingredients, you can dissolve away toilet stains and bacteria without putting your family’s health at risk.
