How to Clean the Inside of Your Car Like a Pro

Keeping your car spotless may seem like an impossible task, especially if you have kids in tow. But with regular upkeep, our tried-and-true tips, and non-toxic car cleaning products, you can stay one step ahead of the mess.

What You Need to Clean Your Car:

Step 1: Declutter and Prep

First things first, get rid of all the clutter. Gather up toys, snack wrappers, coffee cups, and any other items that don't belong in the car and toss them or put them where they belong. This step alone makes a huge difference in how clean your car feels and looks.

Step 2: Vacuum

Once the trash and clutter are cleared out, it's time to vacuum. Use a handheld vacuum to get into all the nooks and crannies where crumbs and dirt tend to hide. Make sure to remove the car seats (if you have any) so you can vacuum where they normally sit, too.

Step 3: Wipe Down And Clean The Car Seats

Next, tackle the seats.

For Leather: Generously spray seats with a non-toxic wood and furniture polish and use an eco-friendly cleaning cloth to buff the leather until it shines.

For Cloth: Treat stains or spills with a non-toxic odor and stain eliminator. Truly Free Home Odor & Stain Eliminator works wonders on everything from juice spills to muddy footprints. The best part? It’s non-toxic, and there’s no need to rinse it, making the process quick, hassle-free, and safe for your family.

Quick Tip: Always do a test spot in an inconspicuous area for color fastness.

Step 4: Wipe Down The Interior Car Hard Surfaces

For the dashboard, doors, and other hard surfaces, skip toxic cleaners with harsh fumes. Opt for a non-toxic wood and furniture polish instead. It works wonders on hard surfaces and leaves them gleaming without harmful chemicals.

Step 5: Clean The Interior Car Windows

Dirty fingerprints and nose smudges on windows are a common sight in my car. To get your windows crystal clear, spray them with an ammonia-free glass cleaner and wipe them down with a reusable cleaning cloth.

Why Cleaning Your Car with Non-Toxic Cleaners Matters

When my kids are buckled in the backseat, the last thing I want is harsh chemical fumes filling our small, enclosed space. Cars trap everything—smells, particles, residue—and that means whatever you clean with, your family is breathing in.

That's why I made the switch to Truly Free Home non-toxic cleaners, and haven't looked back. They work just as well (sometimes better) than the conventional stuff, without the headache-inducing fumes or the worry of little hands touching freshly wiped surfaces.

When you know the cleaners you’re using are safe, it helps take the stress out of car cleaning, so you can maintain a tidy vehicle, even amidst the chaos of family life.
