You’ve had a long day and need to soothe your sore & achy muscles. There’s one thing you’ve looked forward to all day –   a nice hot soak in the tub.

No matter how sore you are, it’s the one thing that always soothes  those muscles and relaxes your whole body – it’s your time for peace.

It’s all planned out: you’ll sprinkle some bath salts, add a few drops of that new essential oil blend you got at the farmer’s market, dim the lights, and just enjoy the peace and quiet. It will be perfect….

Until you open the bathroom door.

The bathtub is one place mold grows almost instantly after cleaning. Germs and bacteria love a warm & wet environment and will quickly takeover, leaving a thick sludgy film on the bottom of the tub.

You want to get in and relax, not worry about getting sick!

What Germs Are Hanging Out In Your Tub?

germs

As mentioned before, germs LOVE warm wet environments just as much as we do, if not more so! That type of environment gives them all they need to grow and multiply.

The germs hanging out in your dirty tub include:
  • Athletes Foot fungi
  • Mold/Mildew
  • Shigella
  • E.coli
  • Salmonella
  • Campylobacter
  • MRSA
  • Group A Strep (including flesh eating bacteria)
  • Covid-19
  • Norovirus

*Note: When you flush your toilet with the lid up, germs/bacteria become aerosolized into little droplets in the air and can travel up to 6 feet away.  This means toilet germs may end up in your tub too.  Many of these toilet germs are found all over bathroom surfaces.

Athlete’s Foot is a dermatophytic fungus that is a skin infection.  It often occurs in athletes, or people who have their feet in tight fitting shoes.  The feet sweat and because they are in a tight fitting shoe their sweaty feet stay sweaty and over time the infection can occur. It causes an itchy scaly rash.

Mold/Mildew– They really love warm and humid environments and can cause respiratory problems that can be mild to severe. They are especially problematic for those with asthma.

Shigella, E.Coli, Salmonella, and Campylobacter are called enteric pathogens. They come from contaminated foods, and can cause many symptoms, especially diarrhea and bloody stools. They can even be deadly.

MRSA is a dangerous staph infection that can cause swollen, painful red bumps on the skin.

Those bumps can quickly become like pus filled boils that can go deep into the skin causing life threatening illnesses in your joints, bones, lungs, and organs.

Norovirus is a gastrointestinal virus that causes sudden and severe vomiting and diarrhea.  It can stay on surfaces for up to 1 week!

Group A Strep can cause anything from a mild illness, such as sore throat, or strep throat, to the deadly flesh eating infection (necrotizing fasciitis).

Health Effects Caused By Not Cleaning These Germs Away Properly:

Now that you have that tub sparkling clean, you just need to maintain it.   To keep it looking good and bacteria free, we recommend cleaning it regularly.

If it’s also a shower, spray the shower daily after use, with a Non-Toxic TrulyFree™ Bathroom Cleaner to prevent build-up.

If it’s just a tub, spray and wipe down after use. This helps to prevent the build-up and then you can use the tub cleaner recipe as needed when the tub is needing a deeper clean or looking dingy.
