Think dish soap is just for dishes? Not with these safe & powerful hacks

You may be surprised to learn Truly Free Home’s non-toxic dish soap is a powerhouse for all kinds of cleaning uses around your home

Whether you're unclogging toilets, making your own weed killer, or even keeping bugs at bay, it’s always a good idea to have our plant-based formula on hand

Because you don’t need toxic ingredients to get serious results.

Best Non-Toxic Dish Soap Cleaning Hacks and DIY Solutions

1. De-Fog Mirrors and Glasses

Hosting your in-laws or just want to give your en-suite a lux touch? Rub a small drop of non-toxic dish soap onto your bathroom mirror, then buff it out with a clean cloth. It creates a temporary barrier that prevents fogging after a hot shower.

2. Natural Weed Killer

If it’s good enough for Martha Stewart, well,  it must be a “good thing.” According to her, you can create a non-toxic weed killer by mixing 1 tablespoon of non-toxic dish soap with 1 gallon of vinegar and 1 cup of salt (optional). The soap breaks down the plant’s outer layer, helping the vinegar and salt penetrate more effectively.

For optimal results, apply early in the morning or late in the day when it’s not as hot. And be sure there’s no rain forecast for at least 24 hours.

3. DIY Ice Pack

Those hard plastic freezer blocks are great for picnics but not for your aching shoulder. To make a better option, mix non-toxic dish soap with a bit of rubbing alcohol and freeze it in a ziplock bag. It becomes a slushy, reusable ice pack that comfortably molds around injuries or sore muscles.

4. Unclog Toilets

When plunging alone isn’t getting the job done, adding non-toxic dish soap will lubricate the pipes and help loosen clogs. Pour a generous amount of non-toxic dish soap into a clogged toilet, let it sit for 15–30 minutes, and then flush with hot water.

5. Remove Fleas on Pets

A diluted non-toxic dish soap bath is a safe way to remove fleas from your dogs and cats. The soap affects the ability of the flea to float in water by changing the surface tension of the water, so fleas sink and drown. Use a fine-tooth comb to remove the flea eggs to prevent reinfestation

6. Clean Greasy Tools or Garage Equipment

Just like it does with greasy dishes, non-toxic dish soap cuts through tools and equipment coated in motor oil. Simply soak them in a solution of dish soap and warm water, scrub, then rinse clean

7. Get Rid of Fruit Flies

Does your fruit bowl have some unwelcomed guests? Make a fruit fly trap. Fill a small bowl with apple cider vinegar and add a few drops of dish soap. The soap breaks the surface tension, causing the flies to sink and drown.

8. De-Ice Walkways

No need to use harsh chemicals for this winter chore. Combine dish soap, rubbing alcohol, and hot water in a spray bottle. Spray on icy walkways or car windshields. It helps melt the ice and temporarily prevents re-freezing.

9. Make Homemade Bubbles

Try this simple recipe for MIle Hi Bubbles with ingredients you already have on hand.

Mix together

  • 2 cups warm water
  • ⅓ cup of non-toxic dish soap
  • ¼ cup corn syrup

Other recipes call for glycerin or gelatin instead of corn syrup, so feel free to experiment.

10. Stain Pre-Treatment for Laundry

If you’re out of Stain Stick or Laundry Stain Spray (and let this be your reminder to add it to your next order), you can use non-toxic dish soap.

Apply some directly to greasy food stains or makeup smudges on clothing before washing. It breaks down the oils more effectively than many traditional detergents

11. Make your jewelry sparkle
