Is Alkyl Polyglucoside Safe? How It's Used in Truly Free Home Cleaning Products
What is Alkyl Polyglucoside?
Alkyl Polyglucoside is a class of mild, plant-derived surfactants that lowers the surface tension of water (science talk for “helps water spread and grab better), so soils (like dirt, oil, and residue) lift right off surfaces and fabrics and rinse off easily.
Why We Use Alkyl Polyglucoside for Plant-Based Cleaning
Truly Free Home plant-based cleaning products are always made with ingredients that work hard while being a better option for you, your family, and the planet. Here’s why Alkyl Polyglucoside (APG) is in so many of our formulas.
Biodegradable and Easy on The Planet
Derived from renewable plant materials, like corn sugars and fatty alcohols from coconut, Alkyl Polyglucoside breaks down quickly in the environment. This means it doesn’t pollute waterways or harm aquatic life, making it perfect for conscious cleaning products.
Gentle on Skin
Unlike harsh, toxic surfactants often found in conventional cleaners, Alkyl Polyglucoside is gentle and mild. With an EWG score of 1, it’s considered low risk for irritation and safe for sensitive skin. It’s so gentle that it’s often used in baby shampoos and facial cleansers.
That’s why you’ll find it in everything from Truly Free Home Laundry Wash and Truly Free Home Laundry Stain Spray to our Truly Free Home Everyday Cleaner.
Effective Plant-Based Cleaning for Every Room
Alkyl Polyglucoside surfactants may be gentle, but that doesn’t mean APG is ineffective. Alkyl Polyglucoside packs some serious cleaning power. This natural ingredient interacts with both water-soluble and oil-based substances, making it an all-star at cutting through soap scum, grease, and grime.
